Drum & Percussion Lessons
Our drum instructors will teach rock, metal, jazz, funk, blues and many other styles. Drum language can be complex and our instructors will challenge any drummer with a wide variety of technical exercises designed to improve your speed and comfort. All students may bring in their favorite drum parts to learn in their drum lessons and theory is encouraged.
We also offer Percussion Lessons, which is a wonderful addition to any school band program, rock band, or worship band.
You do not have to purchase a drum kit to take drum lessons (though owning one at home will greatly benefit your lessons). Beginning students can learn with a drum pad and sticks for about $40. And we sell them at the studio! Choose a rubber or plastic practice pad. A plastic pad has a more natural response but makes more sound.
AFRAID of the NOISE? You can purchase an electronic set and use headphones!
Students use our drum set at their lessons and do not have to bring anything except their drumsticks and a notebook.
If you are just starting out, here are a number of ways you can keep sound levels down while you practice and do it affordably:
1) Start on a rubber practice pad.
2) Put rubber pads on cheap drums.
3) Purchase an electronic drum kit.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
WHAT WILL I LEARN IN DRUM LESSONS?
Our drum teachers understand that every student is an individual, with personal musical needs and goals. We make it a priority to tailor how we teach and what we teach to your individual needs.
If you enroll here for drum lessons, your teacher will ask you about your favorite type of music, and set goals to help accomplish whatever musical aspirations you have for yourself or your child. Together, you will develop a plan to achieve your goals! We love beginners, so even if you don’t know where to begin, we can help!
WHAT STYLES OF MUSIC CAN I LEARN?
At Musicology, our drum lessons can focus on jazz, rock, classical, and more. We are committed to making sure your music experience is personalized to your interests and needs, and our teachers are highly qualified to make this happen. This leads into another frequently asked question…
ARE YOUR DRUM INSTRUCTORS QUALIFIED?
Our instructors are certified, extremely knowledgeable, have teaching experience, and most importantly, they have a passion for teaching. Being a musician doesn’t automatically make you a teacher–that’s why we search for those who are best qualified for mentoring our music students!
We search all over the Huntsville area for the top teachers, who embody the values at Musicology School of Music. Most importantly, our instructors strive to relate their teaching to each individual student’s learning style. Many of our instructors have gone on performance tours of the USA and Europe and have years of professional performance and teaching experience, which means you can trust that your drum lessons are being taught by professionals. In addition to their teaching credentials, our teachers have warm personalities, are extremely friendly, and strive to get to know each student and their parent on a personal level. We search high and low for the BEST teachers, so you don’t have to!
HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO LEARN TO PLAY DRUMS?
There is no set answer of how long it takes to learn to play drums. With regular practice, a basic level of singing can be accomplished in a few months. Most of our students take lessons on a long-term basis because they want to be constantly improving and they find the lessons enjoyable.
I DON’T HAVE ANY MUSICAL BACKGROUND OR ABILITY. CAN I STILL HELP MY CHILD PRACTICE?
Of course! Help hold your child accountable outside of their drum lesson by encouraging them to practice (or spend time listening to them practice — they’ll love performing for you!) You can always ask about sitting in on a drum lesson as well; our instructors are here to help your child grow.
